Language school might teach you how to communicate, although will not provide the opportunity to experience and feel something together in English. “Otona Gakko” (Which means “School for adults” in Japanese) today announces to hold the collaboration workshop (“Kawaii Bento” (Which means “Pretty lunch box” in Japanese) professional + English professional), where both Non-Japanese and Japanese can make bento together throughout Japanese cultural hands-on activity! It will be a great opportunity to experience and learn Japan’s “bento culture” which is decorative and utilitarian!! That’s what the “Deco-ben” (decorated bento) workshop in English is all about!

Have you ever heard about “Deco-ben” or “Chara-ben” before? “Deco-ben” or “Chara-ben” is one of the amazing Japanese pop cultures which is now famous not only in Japan but in many foreign countries. In this workshop, you will learn how to decorate lunch box with adorable animal-shaped side dishes, such as character ”Onigiri” (which means “rice ball” in Japanese) and so on! (See below photos for actual samples). Mrs. Mami Miyazaki, a professional Chara-ben artist, will teach you how to arrange the ingredients and to make a beautiful lunch box. All of her recipes are simple to follow and easy to cook, but her skill is truly sophisticated! Her idea and imagination will be full of surprise and excitement even for many adults!! Mrs. Tsubasa Kato (Jojo), organizer and founder of The International Center in Tokyo (ICT) will support Mami with English. All nationalities are welcome! Enjoy your special “stuffed” time in English together!

What is “Chara-ben” and “Deco-ben”?
Bento can be elaborately arranged in a style called "Chara-ben" ("character bento"). “Chara-ben” is typically decorated to look like popular characters from Japanese cartoons (anime), comic books (manga), or video games. Another popular bento style is "Deco-ben" ("decorated bento"). This is decorated to look like people, animals, buildings and monuments, or items such as flowers and plants.
